Faith’s 2021 Graduates

As a faith family, we always rejoice in the achievements of members of our congregation, but at this time of year, we really love to honor our parishioners who are graduating from various programs. We’re so proud to share some information about our 2021 Grads.

Oscar Hernandez has been attending Faith since he was a kid, so we have all had the pleasure of watching him grow up. We are so proud of him for graduating on May 18 from North High School. He already has 30 college credits under his belt, and plans to continue accruing prerequisite credits from Phoenix College until he is ready to transfer to university. As a graduate from high school, he is really looking forward to making his own schedule, and the autonomy that he’ll have from the rigid schedule of high school.

Sam Perez has been an active member of Faith for many years, attending a number of youth gatherings, assisting with worship, and getting his peers excited about participating in church life. He has served as a member of Faith’s council for several years, giving a strong voice to our more youthful contingency. We are so proud of his accomplishments at school and all of the work that he has put in to get to this point. This year, he is graduating from community college, and will continue to work after he graduates.

Brenda Lund has spent the last two years involved in the Grand Canyon Synod’s Diakonia program. This is a in intensive, two-year program for individuals interested in leading or more fully participating in the life of the church. It also provides students the opportunity to learn and practice skills necessary for communicating the gospel, visitation, ethical decision making, and more. We are so proud of Brenda’s dedication to the program, and we look forward supporting her as she hones and grows her skills as a lay leader at Faith. With this education, she is really looking forward to continuing her biblical studies and better understanding scripture, as well as the histories of other religions.

On Sunday, May 23, the Day of Pentecost, we will honor our graduates with a blessing, prayer, and sending. Please come worship with us at 9am. Masks are required.
