CHURCH AND PRE-SCHOOL GET MAKEOVER

Of all pleasures the fruit of labor is the sweetest”…Luc de Clapiers

If it wasn’t “pleasure” it was at least a “good feeling” Faith volunteers took home following Saturday’s combined Church/Pre-school project. In all, 28 persons had a hand in the effort.

A $250 Thrivent grant was used to purchase a 3 by 25 foot length of artificial turf and several pots of vinca and summer- hardy flowers. (Jeff Havir delivered the pre-cut turf and Pre-school director Alma Cortes bought the flowers, soil, and pots). Her husband, Abel Jimenez, removed two reluctant-to-leave bushes in front of the Pre-school office.  Joe Jones and Art Escoto headed a team that leveled the area in front of the Pre-school office and Church kitchen, capped sprinklers, trimmed and installed the artificial turf, and “planted” the flower pots. Now it’s up to Pre-schoolers to water and keep the flowers thriving.

Inside, Faith Center was getting a colorful uplift with a new coat of turquoise paint. Gail Turner and John Johnstonbaugh were the field generals assisted by an army of volunteers. (Pastor Sarah donated the paint, making sure it came in her favorite color).

Meanwhile, the church interior was getting a much-needed clean-up. In the robing room, Nick Pegelow and Craig Westendorf led a team including Brenda Lund, Diane Havir, Marc Taylor and Vicar Veronica Alvarez to ensure that old junk found its way into the trash; tables, pews, and floors were cleaned; and the room got re-organized to provide more space in the center, for robing.

In the sanctuary, Danielle Bowen-Weiszmann led an effort along with Nick, Marc, Diane, Carly, Isabel and Vint to give pews the murphy oil treatment; vacuum the sanctuary and narthex; return hymnals to their homes in the pews; replenish pencils, and offering envelopes; remove the blue tape closing off pews to allow congregation members to self-distance; and bathrooms cleaned.

In the chapel, Dave Hulin, Jan Hulin & Kelly Krause cleaned out an awful lot of junk from the altar, and the storage closet. They spent hours reorganizing the space and finding new homes for anything that didn’t need to go to the trash.

On the Pre-school playground wood chips were raked and smoothed. Everybody was so busy that not all the donuts, coffee, and bottled water were consumed.
