Thrivent Volunteers Impact New Hospice
Hospice of the Valley will soon be opening a beautiful new Dementia Care and Education Campus with Camelback Mountain visible in the background near 44th Street and Indian School. Faith Thrivent volunteers recently placed a small fingerprint on the facility by planting a raised vegetable and flower garden on a sunny Saturday morning. Using a $250 Thrivent Action Team grant, we purchased soil and a variety of vegetable plants and colorful flowers. As they grow, Hospice volunteers will engage people living with dementia in a stimulating and joyful gardening activity. While the green thumbs were busy, other Faith volunteers were piecing together lovely cards which will be shared with Hospice patients and families. When our work was done, Hospice hostess Diana Murray gave us an enlightening tour of the multipurpose, carefully planned and constructed facility. Participants included Richard and Laura Kohring, Jeff and Diane Havir, Don and Dolores Rehms, Art Escoto, and Fred Cowley.
