Thrivent Volunteers go to a Picnic
March 1, 2025
The Creighton Family Resource Center picnic was Saturday but a key part of the preparation took place last Thursday night in the Faith Lutheran kitchen. There, Gail Turner directed a crew which produced two giant pans of delicious potato salad fortified with 25 pounds of potatoes and 5 dozen eggs.
The salad was served at the picnic which attracted 150 Creighton family members and children under a cloudless sky. There was plenty more to eat and drink…cheeseburgers and trimmings, hot dogs, chips, popcorn, water, and Gatorade.
A $250 Thrivent Action Team grant paid for the burgers and hot dogs. There were educational booths about health care, insurance, books, and other subjects.
The kids enjoyed the playground, but mostly a chance for families to enjoy food and conversation. One parent who attended Creighton as a youngster brought his wife and kids and talked about attending a spring training exhibition baseball game. Our volunteers served food and appreciated many “Thank Yous”.
What little potato salad that was left over went home with picnic goers packed in paper cup containers. Another “Thank You” to the following Thrivent volunteers: Gail Turner, Scott Ulmer, Paul Bott, Fred Cowley, Nancy Maxwell, Jeff and Diane Havir, Linda Papa, Pastora Veronica, Francisca Shaw, and the Flores family, Anita, Froylan, and Adriana.
