This Week at Faith
Happy Thanksgiving!
Historically, this isn’t one of my favorite holidays; I’m not wild about turkey, or mashed potatoes, or pumpkin pie. But let me tell you what I am wild about: Basically everything else! I try to wake up every morning with a grateful heart. It’s not always easy, but I love our annual tradition of taking stock of our gratitude, and sharing that with our loved ones.
I just love talking to people
I’ve had so many wonderful phone calls this week. I thought this might be a fun anecdote to share with you: A few months ago, spammers were masking their phone numbers with the church’s telephone number, which resulted in me receiving more than a couple of calls from angry people who were absolutely NOT interested in renewing their car’s warranty, or probably don’t have warrants out from the IRS. One such person was SO terrified that she was in trouble with the law in the state of Arizona. Upon reassuring her that FLC is not coming after her for tax evasion, she mentioned to me her own religious upbringing, told me she’s in the state of Washington, and that she’d love to find a church “when Covid is over.” I said “Debbie. I know just the church for you. It’s in Bellevue and their pastor used to be ours! I suppose this is just kismet.”
This happens to me often. I receive a lot of phone calls in the office, many of which are sales calls. On occasion, I’m given the most wonderful gift of having a laugh with a stranger. What I’m trying to say here is: I’m so grateful for the work that I get to do. Thank you, people of Faith, for trusting in me for your administrative needs. I love to chat with you, I love to know about your life, and I love to know how I can best serve you, and the congregation as a whole. Call me anytime!
(I’m not bored. I’ve got plenty to do. I’m just a chatterbox.)
Thanksgiving Treat at Faith Lutheran Preschool
The sense of community at the preschool is one for the books. This week, Alma Cortes, Preschool Director and Deana Cortes, Assistant Director, arranged for a Thanksgiving lunch catered by Café Rio. While the staff wasn’t all able to eat together around a table, it was a treat for church staff to share a meal with the preschool staff. Thank you, FLP!
Campus Cleaning
As you may recall, we hired a group in June to begin cleaning up around campus once per week. That was plenty of cleaning back then because we didn’t have all of our regular programming back yet, nor did we have a 12-step meeting every day of the week. Some of you have noticed that the cleanliness of our shared spaces could probably be improved upon. (Suzanne Johnstonbaugh even came in and mopped the whole sanctuary a few weeks ago!)
Well I’ve got such a good update! I met with our point of contact at the cleaning company, and he and I did a thorough review of the current procedures, and came up with a plan to install easier-to-use soap and TP dispensers, as well as more regular cleaning of the facility. You guys, I promise that we will never run out of paper towel again. Ok, I can’t make that promise because there are a lot of factors that are out of my control, but as long as it is in my control, I promise we’ll never run out again.
