This Week at Faith
Hello again! It’s your ol’ pal Carly here with news from Faith! Interested in knowing what’s been going on on Campus? Check it out!
Counting Offerings
My dear friends Kathie Johnson and Donna Rae Cintora came by this last Monday to count up the last two weeks of offerings and I’ve got to say, y’all really showed up this month! Don’t stop! I haven’t closed the month out on the books yet, so I don’t have the exact numbers to show you how well you did, but you should have access to that information in next week.
We would like to remind you, of course, that counting is done around the 15th and last day of every month, so those are the days you should see the debits from your bank account. If that schedule doesn’t work for you, check out all of the different ways to give virtually on our Giving Page.
Preschool Fence
What a nuisance this darn fence can be. It’s got to be almost as old as the preschool itself, right?
Our friends at our regular 12-Step meeting provided a temporary fix a few weeks ago, which got the fence back upright. Alma Cortes, Preschool Director and I still had some concerns on Monday morning as to whether or not it would endure the storm that was forecasted on Tuesday night, and into Wednesday. So on Monday afternoon, President John Johnstonbaugh Sr., Treasurer Dave Hulin, and Secretary Gail Turner hopped on a last-minute video call with Alma and I to discuss the best way to get this taken care of quickly and cost-effectively.
On Tuesday afternoon, Gail came back down to campus and put our friends back to work to reinforce the wobbling fence posts with wire and rebar. The [temporary] fix worked great! It’s important to keep in mind that it is temporary, however. So if you know anyone in fencing who can get us a screamin’ deal, let me know!
Facility Use
We’ve got another couple of busy Saturdays coming up here! This Saturday, the 4th, we can welcome EMC Shalom Internacional as they move into Faith Center as their regular worship space. If you’re on campus on Saturdays from September on, you may also see members of our regular 12-step meetings at 4pm and 7pm. All of these groups will be here every Saturday! What a lively bunch we are!
Then, for our subsequent Saturdays this month, we’ve got AZ Audio Video Club, not one, but two NA events, and the Phoenix Lutheran Youth (PhLY) using our space. It’s really making the grounds feel alive. Faith Alive!
Neighbors
That actually brings me to my next point. I don’t know what life was like on campus before I came, but when I first started training with Deedee in February, it was rare to see a human who wasn’t here for the preschool. Nowadays, my days are hoppin’, with neighbors popping by all the time, asking for snacks and water.
To protect my safety, and the safety of the preschool students and staff, we’ve suspended our lunch bag program for our transient neighbors. However, this is Arizona and I will not allow a person who comes to our door asking for help to walk away without a water in his or her hand. If we have granola bars, I’ll give them a couple of those too.
We have run out of these supplies, so if you would like to donate a case or two of water, and a box or two of granola bars or trail mix, please bring them on down to the church office any time we’re open!
MOTHS!
I hate moths. I hate them so much. They never know where they’re going, they’re always flying into my face and gently brushing against me like seaweed in the ocean. It’s awful. And they. are. everywhere. Have you noticed too? I was walking through the courtyard the other day and saw this giant Mothra. Look at her! I hope you don’t hate moths as much as I do!
Things that need to be fixed
After all of the hard work that Saint Jane put into the Chapel Narthex, it appears that the old' AC is leaking again, especially with the increased use of the chapel. We need help fixing it! So far this summer, we’ve spent $500 repairing three units on campus - and that doesn’t include the repairs on the preschool ACs, which they have paid for. If you’d like to sponsor a repair or audit, please indicate that on your offering envelope!
Our water bill has just about doubled this summer, due in large part to our landscaping needs. If sprinklers and commercial landscaping are your passion, we need your help!
You’ve certainly noticed the playhouse and slide in the courtyard. Now, we don’t want to ruin our grass in there, so that needs to get moved into a playroom for the kids in short order! If you’ve got a minute and muscles, please come down any time to move those babies up to the cry room!
