This Week at Faith
Full transparency: I started this segment of the weekly newsletter in an attempt to give the congregation more insight into what happens on campus on a daily basis. Personally, before I took this position, I really didn’t know. Despite the fact that I’ve been a member here for almost 4 years, and have attended for almost 5, I really kind of thought the place was just deserted during the week. BOY, WAS I WRONG.
Phoenix College Choir Concert
This coming Saturday, December 11, the Phoenix College choir will be holding their annual holiday concert in Faith’s sanctuary. Faith Organ Veteran (and Music Director at St. Andrew Lutheran Church) Gary Quamme came with Music Professor and Director Dr. Kenny Miller to rehearse on Tuesday night. I had the opportunity As we speak, Bill Kochenderfer and Nick Pegelow are in the sanctuary hanging more beautiful lights and décor to brighten up our already luxurious sanctuary. If you’d like to hear the angelic voices of the Phoenix College Choirs, come on down to Faith with for the 6pm concert. Bring a few canned goods, as there is no cost for admission save for a few cans of delicious foods.
Sharing with a New Family
It’s pretty rad to have an opportunity to share our gifts, isn’t it? A new family has moved into Faith P(a)lace and are starting to settle in. As I mentioned in previous articles, we do need to be sure that we are giving this family space to acclimate to their new home, and this new culture. If you would like to make any donations or provide anything to them, please do so through Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest. You can also make a monetary contribution through Faith by notating on the special designation line that you would like to donate to LSS-SW for Refugee Services.
Preschool Christmas Pageant
As I mentioned in last week’s article, the Preschool Christmas Pageant was last night in Faith Center. Music Director, Dr. Craig Westendorf, Preschool Director Alma Cortes, and one very strong preschool parent named Jesus hauled a couple of risers over to set up a stage for the wee ones. We can’t share photos of the kids without parental permission, so instead I’ll just show you how cute this stage is!
Wednesday Nights in Advent
Ok, usually Wednesday nights get their own article, but I really just have to tell you guys about this. Faith was hoppin’ this Wednesday. Between the midweek soup supper, El Coro rehearsing in the Chapel, and Las Campanas de Fe rehearsing in the Sanctuary, our programming really filled up the parking lot. Add to that a local community group meeting in Faith Center, and we were a regular Grand Central Station last night! You all know how much it fills my heart to see this property full of people, so that was just such a treat to see. Join us next Wednesday at 5pm to get in on that midweek liveliness!
