“God’s Work, Our Hands” Project a Success

Submitted by Fred Cowley

Psalm 90:17: “Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!”

Last Sunday, 36 hands (attached to 18 volunteers) showed up to complete Faith Lutheran’s “God’s Work, Our Hands” 2021 project. Those hands filled 100 Snack Pack bags with donations from many members of our congregation. The bags were delivered to Lutheran Social Services of the Southwest for distribution to asylum seekers and persons awaiting placement in LSS’s homeless program. Eighteen volunteers, saying they had “fun”, participated in the assembly line operation. Hungry to go to their own lunches, they worked at a brisk pace

Earlier, other volunteers armed with a $250 Thrivent Action team grant shopped for and filled 10 large bags, each one containing nuts, crackers, chips, fruit snacks, and seven cans of protein packed tuna. Lutheran Social Services carries out God’s Work in many ways including the approaching challenge of resettling Afghanistan refugees. We at Faith consider ourselves fortunate to use Our Hands to help in a small way.
