The Ministry of Music

Music plays an integral part in the life of the Church, and as Lutherans, we are blessed by a rich and dynamic tradition from which to draw strength for our souls.

In our worship, whether by one or by many, music carries our prayer and praise, proclaiming the Word of God, as has been done throughout our common Biblical history.

Quality worship is an important part of who we are as a community of faith. We are blessed with many musically gifted individuals who are "instrumental" in creating a world class music program. Word and Sacrament are central in sustaining us on our journey.

Jim Sage is currently serving as our Interium Music Director. If you are interested in becoming a part of our music celebration, please speak to Jim directly or call the church office.

At Faith, there are several musical components of our worship and service life for you to consider:

The 9am Chancel Choir: This ensemble, which rehearses weekly, is a cornerstone of the leadership of our weekly worship. It enriches and supports the congregation's singing of the liturgy, and on its own, offers praise to God and illuminates the hearts and minds of God's people.

Participation in this ensemble requires regular attendance at weekly rehearsals (1.5 hours each) and services, a passion for singing, a willingness to be challenged, and a desire to cultivate that talent—at whatever level—accorded you. You do not have to read music to sing in this choir. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings at 7PM in the sanctuary, September through the end of May.

We enjoy a large variety of musical styles, from early 16th century Latin music, to World Music, up to modern day anthems written within the last decade. You are assured of enjoying a variety of challenging and meaningful music.

Cantor Ministry: There are often opportunities for those who feel comfortable singing alone (or who wish to learn) to lead portions of the liturgy such as the Psalm. These are assigned in rotation and require a commitment of an hour or less on each occasion. You must be able to read music and are comfortable singing solos to be a Cantor.

Instrumentalist: Those who play musical instruments can find a place in our ministry as well, whether as a soloist, or as part of an ensemble. Consider sharing your talent to the glory of God.

El Coro: This is the group of vocalists who assist in leading music for our 11am Spanish service each week. A dedicated group of singers, they usually rehearse on Sunday afternoon, following the 11am service. You do not have to read music to sing wit El Coro, but you must be willing to commit to singing on Sunday mornings and attending rehearsals (and clearly, you must be comfortable singing in Spanish!)

Concerts at Faith: We have an outstanding space for concerts. Our sanctuary seats over 300 people and is a clear and reverberant space. In addition, our smaller chapel is regularly used for concerts and recitals. From organ and piano concerts, to voice, choral, instrumental, and more, we delight to welcome performers from all over the world who gift our community with their music.

INSTRUMENTS AT FAITH

Faith is blessed with wonderful selection of instruments. In addition to the pipe organ and the grand piano in the sanctuary, we have:

  • three timpani
  • 3 octaves of handbells
  • tubular chimes
  • several additional pianos
  • two electric keyboards
  • world percussion instruments

Let our Music Director know if you are interested in being a part of our incredible music ministry! You do not need to be a music professional to be a part of our ministry of song. We look forward to having you with us as you seek to serve God with you talent.
