Summer Worship at Faith
Beginning Sunday, June 11, and ending with Sunday, September 3, our readings for worship will come from the Narrative Lectionary (NL). The NL is a four-year cycle of readings that was created by Luther Seminary. On the Sundays from September through May each year the texts follow the sweep of the biblical story, from Creation through the early Christian church. For the summer, however, the readings delve deeper into the Bible via sermon series. For this summer, the series are: 5 weeks on Psalms, then 4 weeks on Ephesians, concluding with 4 weeks on Revela- tion. The primary reading and preaching text for each Sunday will come from the appointed book (for example, on June 11 it will be Psalm 100), and it will be accompanied by a brief gospel reading that corresponds with the theme of the day.
To complement these readings, our order of worship will change so that we begin with Morning Prayer, which includes standing and sitting at different times than we’re used to, and also periods of silence. This will be followed by the sermon and the “second half” of the service in its current order, including Communion.
A complete list of the Sunday readings is listed below. A complete list of the daily readings (Monday through Saturday) will be available by Sunday, June 4. As with all of our worship services, we hope that worship this summer will enrich your personal and prayer lives.
