Faith Lutheran Church presents

Faith's Movie Night -- Film Festival 2008

6:30 pm

“I believe that more people in the United States and in the world find their way into theological conversations, faith conversations, in and around viewing films at theaters or at home with video tapes or DVD’s! These evenings around films will help discern the theology going on in films, develop an enhanced understanding of the art form of film, encourage an appreciation of the interweaving of cinematography and theology, and how they might help us understand our own life experiences.”
Pastor Jerry Ebbinga

We will view discuss each film as a group. We may substitute another film for one of these if the group is interested in some particular film . . . or we might go and view a current film in an area theater and follow that with a discussion . . .

Wednesday, June 18 – Chocolat (2000) PG13 A “feel good” film; easily accessed for a starter…
Wednesday, June 25 – Changing Lanes (2001) R

Much more intense; struggles with tough questions about ourselves.
Suggested Reading in preparation: Romans, Chapter 7:14-25

Wednesday, July 2 – Crash (2005) R Oscar for best film 2005; engages ethical issues and the sometimes contradictory situations we find ourselves in
Wednesday, July 9 – The Shipping News (2001) R pushes the viewer into the depths of what it might mean to be resurrected.
Wednesday, July 16 – Jesus of Montreal (1989) looks at Jesus and culture in the most uncomfortable and engaging way of any Jesus film.
